Virtual Music School

In March of 2020, we expanded our virtual options. We had always offered virtual music lessons but when New York State mandated all businesses to temporarily shut down due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we quickly moved our entire lesson program on-line. We continued teaching with no disruption to our lesson program during the stay at home orders in NY. This not only offered continuity but a sense of normalcy to our students and instructors who kept working during the shut down. While these uncertain times have brought a lot of unknowns to the world, we are grateful to our customers and staff for working with us. They enabled us to turn this unprecedented time into  new beginnings and discoveries. Most of all, we are happy that we are able to help to encourage people to stay home and stay safe and that we have been able to make continuous music.

While we have brought back all of our in-person options, we continue to offer music lessons and programs through what we now call our Virtual Music School. Students are able to study music from the comfort of their own home, no matter where they live.  Our program uses the Zoom platform and all scheduling for teachers and students is coordinated through our main office. Students can register for a 30, 45 or 60 minute weekly lesson on all instruments or voice. We accept students of any age, level and ability.

Students who study in our Virtual Music School are just as much a part of our school as any student studying here in person. They are invited to particpate in frequent virtual student showcases and open mics. They are encouraged to come by our physical location (if they live locally) to meet key staff, pick up new books and get a sticker, a prize or a certificate of completion.  For students who are not local, we can mail books and supplies and we offer a virtual tour of our space anytime.

While our Virtual Music School emerged during a worldwide pandemic, we are pretty excited about the doors it has opened for anyone who wants to study music. This option enables students to stay home and take a lesson even in bad weather or if they are feeling under the weather. Students can take lessons while they are on vacation too. All they need is their instrument, wifi and a device.

We want students who are enrolled in our Virtual Music School to be able to take advantage of the many opportunities that we offer to our in-person students. Here at Mike Risko Music, we believe that there is a lot more to becoming a music maker than the music lesson alone. Connecting with other musicians, listening to live music and learning about musical instruments is also an important piece of becoming a musician of any level. If you don't live locally but want to participate, we are always happy to zoom you in. We are really good at that now! Visit our other virtual pages for more info on this virtual program and be sure to check out our other programs too. We are excited about all our programs and the future of making music.
